NATO has approved and deployed Polycom‘s RealPresence Centro tool to support communications and collaboration through its restricted network.

The company said Thursday the alliance is the first to deploy the technology, which will become commercially available late this month.

“For the agency, this means saving time, resources, working securely from almost anywhere and an exceptional user experience,” said Catherine Galoppin, a section head at NATO’s communication and information agency.

Sean Berg, vice president for Polycom’s public sector business, added that RealPresence Centro works to deliver secure collaboration across the video, audio and content platforms.

RealPresence Centro consists of four touch screens that provide a 360-degree view from the center of the meeting space and features functions that automatically track the speaker.

Polycom first announced in December that NATO plans to use the collaboration technology to support video conferences at the alliance’s new headquarters in Belgium.
