electronic health record EHRSoftware firm iCONECT has teamed up with Lockheed Martin’s information systems and global solutions segment in an effort to help healthcare institutions reduce maintenance costs associated with legacy electronic medical records systems.

Lockheed will use its tool to migrate EMRs and related data from a variety of legacy applications to the iCONECT-built XERA Application Decommissioning repository that works as a central archive, iCONECT said Wednesday.

“The flexibility of hosting a central point of access to the legacy data behind the hospital firewall or in a secure cloud environment both lowers risk and has a positive impact on healthcare workflows,” said Joe Stewart, senior vice president of healthcare at iCONECT.

The two firms also will work together on new platforms intended for the U.S. healthcare sector under the alliance.

Last month, Lockheed agreed to merge its government information technology services businesses with Leidos Holdings through a $5 billion tax-free Reverse Morris Trust deal.

Lockheed will continue to run the businesses under its IS&GS segment once the transaction is completed by the fourth quarter of this year.
