nuclear power plantGeneral Atomics’ electromagnetic systems business has secured contracts to supply radiation monitoring systems to U.S. nuclear power plants with boiling water reactors equipped with Mark I and II containments.

BWR plants with Mark I and II containments are required to install RMS and hardened containment vent systems in order to comply with a Nuclear Regulatory Commission mandate, General Atomics said Tuesday.

RMS and HCVS are built to allow plant operators to release pressure, open vents and track radioactivity.

Vivek Lall, vice president of global commercial strategic development at General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems, said the company has deployed its RMS products to several U.S. BWR plants with Mark I and II containment designs as part of HCVS upgrades.

The orders cover the installation of 18 RMS units at various nuclear power plants in the U.S.
