The U.S. Army hosted an industry day for the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles to discuss modernization ideas for the FMTV with interested contractors at the Nevada Automotive Test Center.
The Army said Friday the acquisition leaders and Army Transportation Corps also shared their experiences on the FMTV program as the service branch seeks to award a potential new contract to update the trucks from A1P2 to A2.
“Our trucks still have to get soldiers and supplies from point A to point B, but today we put tremendous effort into protection, which weighs more than the truck was designed for, and network and sensor capabilities that seem to have a bottomless appetite for power,” said Col. Dan Furber, a project manager for Army Transportation Systems.
The Army added that the integral parts of the future improvements are the FMTV’s suspension, protection, power, powertrain and network capabilities.
The scheduled release of a request for proposal is in late fiscal year 2016.
The report said the contract award will be in fiscal year 2017 after a full-and-open competition.
