The U.S. Army has awarded a Saab subsidiary $32 million in contract options to supply laser-based simulators for two kinds of military combat ground vehicle.
Saab said Tuesday its U.S. defense business will provide additional Combat Vehicle Tactical Engagement Simulation Systems to the Army after the military branch exercised the fourth and fifth options on a potential five-year, $90 million contract awarded in 2012.
Cyndi Turner, general manager of the training and simulation division at Saab Defense and Security USA, said the business has built and delivered more than 3,000 CVTESS platforms to the U.S. military.
CVTESS is designed to replicate tactical weapons that are installed on Bradley Fighting Vehicles and M-1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks.
Saab booked the order for laser-based training systems in December 2015.
