Preston Dunlap Appointed as Johns Hopkins APL Mission Area Executive; Mark Lewellyn Comments

Preston Dunlap, formerly a national security fellow in the National Security Analysis Department at Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory, has been appointed as national security analysis mission areas executive at APL.

Dunlap was most recently responsible for APL’s initiatives and partnerships with the government to further the development of technology, exercises and operational planning, APL said Monday.

“Preston’s appointment is made in recognition of his broad analytical expertise, demonstrated executive leadership and exceptional reputation in the national security analysis community,” said Mark Lewellyn, National Security Analysis Department head at Johns Hopkins APL.

Dunlap was a career member of the Senior Executive Service within the Office of the Defense Secretary, where he held the roles as director of program analysis, chief of staff to the director of cost assessment and program evaluation, deputy director of the Simulation and Analysis Center and deputy manager for Information Management and Analysis.

APL’s National Security Analysis mission area performs analyses, research and integrated technology development for national security.
