MUOS-satelliteGeneral Dynamics‘ manpack radio has connected government users to Lockheed Martin-built Mobile User Objective System satellites during a demonstration conducted by the U.S. Army.

The two-channel AN/PRC-155 MUOS-Manpack radio runs the soldier radio waveform and the single-channel ground and airborne radio system waveform with the MUOS waveform, General Dynamics said Tuesday.

“These radios connect the new MUOS network, bridging lower-tier tactical networks… to the big Army network, reaching back to Army personnel located in the most austere locations,” said Mike DiBiase, a vice president and general manager at General Dynamics’ mission systems business.

The MUOS satellite serves as the global communications network for voice and data communications for the Defense Department and government personnel.

The PRC-155 MUOS Manpack works to receive calls from a tactical radio, routes and retransmits the call using the second channel and sends the call to a satellite communications network.
