General Dynamics Hands 2nd TOTE ‘Green’ Containership

TOTE Maritime has received a second liquefied natural gas-powered vessel from General DynamicsÂ to support the operator’sÂ cargo transportation operations.

General Dynamics said Friday its NASSCO subsidiary delivered the Perla Del Caribe containershipÂ under a two-vessel contract that TOTE awarded toÂ NASSCOÂ in December 2012.

TOTE acceptedÂ its firstÂ LNG-fueled cargo ship Isla Bella in October last year and uses the vessel to deliver goods between Jacksonville, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The 764-foot Marlin-class ships are designed to comply with the Jones Act and built with green technology that aims to cut emissions and increase fuel efficiency of the vessels.
