Gerald Ford aircraft carrierDefense and aerospace contractor General Tool Co. will provide hardware equipment for the U.S. Navy’s second Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier under a $48 million subcontract from General Atomics, the Cincinnati Business Courier reported Friday.

Andy Brownfield writes the contract covers trough covers, motor support parts and other safety components for the USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79) carrier that is set to be commissioned by 2020.

General Atomics currently builds the arresting gear and the electronic aircraft launch platform for the service branch’s vessel.

Pete Borden, marketing vice president at GTC, said the contract is a repeat order the company received from General Atomics for such hardware components.

GTC currently works on generator sets for the Navy and other defense-related initiatives, the report said.
