CAE and a Canadian research agency have signed a licensing agreement for the Montreal-based company to market and distribute simulation technology designed for endoscopic and cranial brain surgery training programs.
The National Research Council of Canada granted CAE exclusive global marketing rights to NeuroVR simulator and will collaborate with CAE’s healthcare business to create new training modules for neurosurgeons, the company said Monday.
Robert Amyot, president of CAE’s healthcare unit, said the partnership aims to “advance the field of simulation-based education in healthcare and ultimately improve patient safety.”
NRC built NeuroVR with multiple teaching hospitals in Canada, Asia, Europe and the U.S.
The simulator is designed to train neurosurgeons to safely perform open cranial and endoscopic procedures as well as to evaluate their skills through performance metrics.
CAE also distributes the VirtaMed-built ArthroS arthroscopic training simulator in the North American market and Strategic Operations-made surgical cut suits in international markets.
