The U.S. Air Force has sought information on potential industry sources that can equip remotely piloted aircraft with platforms that work to “sense and avoid” other aerial vehicles in order to prevent collisions in airspace.
The service branch said in a FedBizOpps notice posted Tuesday it will assess potential SAA technology systems based on nine technology readiness levels and 10 manufacturing readiness levels.
SAA systems that achieve TRL 6 by 2020 will be considered as potential viable platforms by the Air Force.
Under this level, the military branch said it will test and demonstrate SAA system and subsystem prototypes in a relevant environment.
The Air Force will consider government-off-the-shelf, emerging technologies and commercial-off-the-shelf platforms to meet the SAA requirements for the drones.
Responses to the sources sought notice are due Feb. 15.
