Orbital ATK Inc. and the U.S. Navy have jointly demonstrated an anti-radiation guided missile at China Lake Naval Air Warfare Center to assess how the missile targets an advanced air defense radar threat.
The AGM-88E advanced anti-radiation guided missile block 1 software upgrade detected and identified an air defense radar system before the missile hit the target, Orbital ATK Inc said Monday.
A pilot received information pertaining to the target before launching the AARGM block 1 software upgrade from a U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet during the live fire test.
“The AARGM Block 1 software upgrade testing successfully demonstrated the missile’s performance in a very challenging tactical scenario,†said Cary Ralston, vice president and general manager of Orbital ATK’s defense electronic systems division.
AARGM is designed to conduct Destruction of Enemy Air Defense and time sensitive strike operations.
