EarthMacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates has secured a contract to introduce updates to DigitalGlobe’s international ground stations for customers to directly receive and process Earth imagery and geospatial data from DigitalGlobe’s future WorldView-4 commercial satellite.

MDA said Thursday WorldView-4 is scheduled to launch in September 2016 to provide customers with multi-spectral images of the Earth’s surface.

The company aims to help users process and access data from the RADARSAT-2 satellite through the ground station upgrades that MDA will perform under the multimillion dollar contract.

DigitalGlobe’s contract award to MDA was announced in the same week as the selection of Raytheon’s Constellation Scheduling System to provide launch and mission planning support for WorldView-4 in September 2016.

DigitalGlobe shifted the launch of WorldView-4 to that date after the Commerce Department gave the company approval to provide customers with Earth imagery with resolutions at up to 30 centimeters.
