120509-N-KQ416-056Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Navy have concluded a series of flights tests for a long range anti-ship missile prototype performed on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland.

An anti-ship missile mass-simulator vehicle fixed to the Navy Super Hornet was used during the tests to assess flight and handling performance, and gauge structural loads and strains on the aircraft, Lockheed said Monday.

“The flight data acquired validates the LRASM system design and clears the way for the test program to continue,” said Mike Fleming, LRASM director at Lockheed.

LRASM is designed to help the Navy and Air Force fulfill combat requirements in anti-access and area-denial threat environments.

The anti-ship missile uses various technologies to identify and destroy the targets.
