An L-3 Communications subsidiary has been awarded a contract from Airborne Technologies to produce electro-optical and infrared imaging systems for integration onto the surveillance planes of a British law enforcement agency.
Airborne Technologies ordered four MX-10 EO/IR sensors from L-3 unit Wescam and will install the technology on P68 fixed-wing aircraft for the British National Police Air Service, L-3 said Monday.
“This order expands L-3’s presence in the police air support marketplace and adds to the number of MX-10 systems currently supporting tactical ISR missions throughout the U.K.,” said Paul Jennison, vice president of government sales and business development at Wescam.
Wescam will configure its MX-10 platform with thermal imagers, a 30-millimeter spotter and daylight and low-light continuous zoom TVs for British police to access geographical information during aerial surveillance missions.
NPAS chose the technology for the agency’s EC135T2 helicopter modernization effort in October 2014.
