General Dynamics EbizGeneral DynamicsNASSCO subsidiary has handed the first of five ECO Class tankers over to American Petroleum Tankers as part of an effort to comply with Jones Act requirements.

The 610-foot-long, Lone Star State LNG-conversion-ready tanker has a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity and features a ballast water treatment system, General Dynamics said Friday.

“The Lone Star State, along with the four others we are currently building for APT, will be among the most fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly tankers anywhere in the world,” said Fred Harris, president of General Dynamics NASSCO.

Construction of Lone Star State began in September 2014 and keel-laying was conducted in March 2015.

DSEC, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, designed the tanker with features such as a G-series MAN diesel and turbo ME slow-speed main engine and a hull form.
