Amazon Web Services and the California Justice Department have signed an agreement in an effort to help the state’s law enforcement agencies comply with FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services standard and securely manage workloads in the cloud.
AWS will offer cloud infrastructure and security-related services such as Amazon CloudTrail, AWS Direct Connect and AWS CloudHSMÂ to law enforcement organizations in California through the CJIS security addendum, AWS said Tuesday.
The Amazon CloudTrail service is designed to record and deliver application program interface log files to clients, while AWS Direct Connect works to create private connectivity with colocation and data centers.
The AWS CloudHSMÂ service is built to allow users to control the encryption keys and cryptographic activities that hardware security module devices perform in the AWS cloud.
“The cloud is an essential part of our strategy to securely deliver innovative digital services to all law enforcement agencies across California,” said Adrian Farley, chief information officer of California DOJ.
“With the CJIS addendum, law enforcement agencies statewide can adopt a cloud-first approach and benefit from the cloud’s agility, cost savings and breadth of functionality.”
