Sikorsky Aircraft has completed the preliminary design review and mission communication system integration on the first S-92A helicopter under a potential $1.2 billion contract awarded by the U.S. Navy for a new presidential helicopter fleet.
The Lockheed Martin-owned business said Wednesday it finished the PDR phase and MCS testing for the first S-92A aircraft in August.
The engineering and manufacturing development contract awarded in May 2014 covers the production of 21 operational helicopters and two test aircraft under the VH-92A Presidential Helicopter Replacement Program.
Sikorsky has started the early-stage modification process on the second helicopter for the VH-92A program after it accepted the aircraft on Sept. 3.
Sikorsky expects to conduct initial fielding by 2020 and complete production work by 2023.
