Raytheon and Norwegian defense contractor Kongsberg Gruppen have completed a series of flight tests of a missile system designed for integration with Lockheed Martin‘s F-35A fighter jets.
An F-16 aircraft was used to launch the Joint Strike Missile at an altitude of 22,000 feet over the training and test range in Utah, Kongsberg said Tuesday.
Mike Jarrett, vice president of air warfare systems at Raytheon’s missile systems business, said the flight test sought to validate the capability of JSM for ground-based and anti-ship attack operations.
Raytheon works with Kongsberg to develop the JSM program for Norway’s armed forces.
The qualification phase for the JSM platform is scheduled to finish in 2017.
Raytheon also collaborates with Kongsberg on the development of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System program under a 10-year agreement signed in June.
