Northrop Grumman has pledged to back cybersecurity technology research projects of British universities through a public-private initiative in the U.K.
British government officials Ed Vaizey and Robert Hannigan introduced the national CyberInvest program during a ceremony held at Park Plaza Hotel in London, Northrop said Monday.
“The U.K. is a thriving centre for cutting-edge research so investing in this partnership will help fuel the rapid pace of cyber innovation needed to stay ahead of the growing threat from cyberspace,” said Andrew Tyler, CEO of Northrop’s European arm.
“Academic collaborations provide the opportunity to access innovation, to co-develop research, to make entry-level investments in technology, and to fund the researchers in the field who may become tomorrow’s cyber leaders,” added Kathy Warden, president of Northrop’s information systems business.
The company vowed to provide financial support for CyberInvest in the next five years and collaborate with university researchers to explore tools against cyber threats.
Northrop also plans to sponsor academic clearances as well as help supervise cybersecurity research activities under the initiative.
