The Australian defense agency has awarded General Dynamics‘ European Land Systems subsidiary a $28 million contract to help upgrade a legacy waterborne bridging platform used by Australian armed forces for transportation.
GDELS said Thursday it will also provide logistics and maintenance training support services through the Australian military’s floating support bridge system modernization project.
The company is scheduled to begin delivery of its Improved Ribbon Bridge to the Australian military in the fourth quarter of 2016.
The IRB platform works as a multibay ferry and is designed to carry loads of up to 96 military wheeled vehicles.
Australia’s military plans to transport and launch the system from a new multipurpose truck, GDELS noted.
GDELSÂ has built floating bridge systems for U.S., German and Swedish defense customers.
