The U.S. Army has completed a series of tests on two Lockheed Martin-built missiles launched from the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.
The service branch test-fired eight Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems and one Army Tactical Missile System at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico as part of a tactical munitions reliability initiative, Lockheed said Monday.
Soldiers carried out the launch of the munitions against simulated targets inside the armored cab of the Lockheed-made HIMARS platform.
HIMARS is built to fire GMLRS and ATACMS missiles at a range of up to 300 kilometers and can be transported through a C-130 aircraft.
