TeleCommunication Systems Inc. has obtained new patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the company’s public safety, mapping, messaging and location-based services.

Among the patented systems, the Voice-over Internet Protocol E911 metro street address guide is intended to determine the location of a 911 caller, TCS said Wednesday.

The company also obtained a patent for its personal location code system that works to control location data access for wireless device applications.

USPTO also issued patents for TCS’ geofence technologies and short message delivery agent designed to control how messages are sent to the distribution center.

“These patents are tangible assets that provide licensing and sales opportunities,” said Maurice Tose, TCS chairman, president and CEO.

TCS added 16 new patents to its portfolio, bringing the total number of patents worldwide to 439.
