Selex ES, a Finmeccanica subsidiary, has completed the installation of a laser system onboard an NH90 tactical transport helicopter for Italy’s army.
The Laser Obstacle Avoidance and Monitoring platform works to detect power lines, pillars and other obstacles as helicopter pilots fly at low altitudes, Selex said Friday.
Selex handed the NH90 helicopter with the LOAM system to Italy’s defense ministry after it concluded the validation phase on the aircraft.
The company also provides the Italian armed forces with radar systems, navigation, communications and identification tools for integration with the country’s NH90 helicopters.
Selex built the LOAM system at its facility in Genoa, Italy.
