Lockheed Martin has unveiled at the Association of the United States Army annual meeting a new software system that works to detect and intercept threats from commercially available unmanned aircraft systems.
Lockheed said Monday Icarus operates defensively and combines electronic warfare, cybersecurity, sensor and nonkinetic technology or techniques.
According to Deon Viergutz, vice president of cyber solutions at Lockheed Martin, the UAS threat emerged from the increased weaponization of commercially available UAS and their use in surveillance operations.
Lockheed noted that the development of Icarus to counter adversarial UAS is part of an internal investment.
The company completed field tests and customer demonstrations of the system over the past year.
