Virginia-class-submarineGeneral DynamicsElectric Boat subsidiary and Huntington Ingalls IndustriesNewport News Shipbuilding division are awaiting the U.S. Navy‘s decision on their proposed teaming arrangement for the Ohio-class submarine replacement program, Defense News reported Monday.

Christopher Cavas writes John Casey, executive vice president of marine systems at General Dynamics, said the companies submitted a work-sharing plan to the military service in March.

Casey added the Electric Boat-Newport News Shipbuilding team cannot begin contract work “until we have the details of an estimate of what it takes to build a particular building or the equipment that goes in it.”

He projected that General Dynamics will invest more than $2 billion to prepare its facilities for the project, the publication reports.

The companies could split the work 60/40 based on a modular construction strategy and applied parts of their build plan in the Virginia-class project to their proposal for ORP, Casey told the publication.
