Iridium CommunicationsIridium Communications has unveiled new broadband core transceiver modules that work to help the company’s manufacturing partners develop Iridium Certus broadband terminal prototypes ahead of end-to-end tests early next year.

The company said Tuesday the modules are part of developer kits for the Iridium NEXT satellite constellation’s new broadband terminals.

“Delivering these developer kits into the hands of our manufacturing partners is a crucial milestone… as it allows our partners to continue to advance their development,” said Brian Pemberton, vice president and general manager for maritime and aviation businesses at Iridium.

Iridium’s manufacturing partners can begin the integration of BCX modules with the terminal design and the assembly of the Certus prototypes, the company added.

The company plans to release production units of the Certus broadband terminal later in 2016 alongside the commercial availability of the Certus broadband service.

Iridium will provide technical and testing services to manufacturers during the prototype development process.
