Northrop Grumman has been awarded a four-year contract extension to continue to support targeting pods and data links for the Australian air force’s fleet of F/A-18 Hornet combat jets.
The company said Sunday it will provide logistics support services for Hornet Target Designation Systems at air bases in Williamtown, New South Wales, and Tindal, Northern Territory.
The platform is built with Northrop’s Litening multisensor weapon aiming technology.
Ian Irving, chief executive of Northrop’s Australian arm, said the military service has also authorized a modernization of the pods.
He added the company aims to help the Royal Australian Air Force reduce costs by updating the country’s Hornet targeting system to align with that of the U.S. Air Force.
Northrop has recorded more than 2 million operating hours for its Litening platform to date.
