CACI International and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration will collaborate to test a company-designed sensor technology meant to help authorities to locate unmanned aircraft systems.
Deputy Administrator Mike Whitaker told House aviation subcommittee members during a hearing Wednesday that FAA wants to examine the safety and security functions of CACI’s technology and if the platform will work to monitor drones near airports, the agency said Wednesday.
The planned technology assessment comes under an agency initiative to explore drone applications in partnership with industry.
“CACI is proud to partner in the FAA’s Pathfinder cooperative research and development agreement to address the escalating unmanned aircraft systems safety challenges that airports are facing nationwide,” said John Mengucci, chief operating officer and president of U.S. operations at CACI.
FAA and its government agency partners will evaluate the company’s UAS detection platform at select airports and aim to ensure that the activity will not disrupt normal operation at the sites.
