rocket launchOrbital ATK has secured a contract to perform research and design work on space propulsion systems for NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Ohio.

NASA awarded the Research and Technologies for Aerospace Propulsion Systems 2 contract to Orbital ATK’s Alliant Techsystems Operations subsidiary, Orbital ATK said Monday.

In July, NASA awarded Orbital ATK and 12 other companies five-year contracts worth up to $190 million combined in support of aerospace research activities at Glenn Research Center.

“This effort reflects our continued commitment to be a key partner in NASA’s pioneering space endeavors,” said Mike Kahn, president of Orbital ATK’s defense systems group.

Alliant Techsystems Operations will focus its work on propellant systems, electric propulsion tools, rocket-based combined cycle and liquid engine components for rotorcraft, hypersonic, subsonic and supersonic vehicles.
