Northrop Grumman has been awarded a contract of an undisclosed value to help New Zealand’s navy build a new navigation system for two Anzac-class frigates.
The company will convert the warships’ MK49 inertial navigation units to an MK39 configuration, Northrop said Wednesday.
Todd Leavitt, vice president of maritime systems at Northrop’s electronic systems business, said the company seeks to help naval customers transmit time-corrected information and secure network communications through the navigation technology.
MK39 INUs will be built with an autoselect tool and an embedded technology for navigation data distribution.
