Advanced Onion has secured a $1.8 million contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency to help find 21.5 million people whose personal data was compromised in a data breach at the Office of Personnel Management, Nextgov reported Monday.
The technology company will work to build a system designed to log the reason for breach notification letters that have been returned, Aliya Sternstein writes.
Advanced Onion will also develop a website through the Defense Manpower Data Center infrastructure intended to help users securely log personal data and check if they were affected by the data hack without the need to call government-run call centers, Sternstein notes.
The returned mail processing tool should be operational by Oct. 9 and the website by Nov. 17, according to the report.
Advanced Onion will also manually scan the codes on each undeliverable notification mail that has been returned and record the reason for the return.
