The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has partnered with Lockheed Martin-owned company Systems Made Simple to update an infrastructure that VA uses to schedule medical appointments for veterans.

Systems Made Simple said Monday that VA’s Medical Appointment Scheduling System will be built to help manage the department’s electronic health records, clinical workflow and scheduling activities.

VA awarded the company a seven-year, $623.6 million contract to support the program.

“Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to our veterans – these men and women who have served our country deserve access to timely healthcare services from the VA,” said Horace Blackman, vice president of health and life sciences at Lockheed.

“We are proud to partner with the VA to ensure that this promise is fulfilled and to enable the VA to serve those who have served our nation,” Blackman added.

The department also seeks to standardize medical care request, patient data collection and reporting processes, as well as offer non-VA providers access to the department’s medical resources through MASS.
