Unisys Survey: Data Breach in Telecom, Gov’t, Financial Sectors a Top Concern Among Consumers

A new Unisys survey has found 59 percent of consumers across 12 countries think a data breach is likely to occur in the telecommunications industry over the next year.

The Unisys Security Insights study also found that network vulnerabilities in the government sector are a major concern for 49 percent of consumers, while data breaches that involve banks are a top concern for 48 percent of respondents, Nick Miles wrote in a blog post posted Wednesday.

“Our findings point to real consumer uncertainty over how their personal data is protected,” said Miles, a public relations director at Unisys.

Consumers in Germany and the Netherlands believe the likelihood of their personal information being compromised in their countries is higher compared with those in the U.K. and U.S., according to the report.

“To prevent reputational damage and inspire customer confidence, organizations must review and enhance existing security measures on a continuous basis to shield against the latest cyber and physical threats, gain visibility into potential weaknesses that hackers might exploit and ensure business objectives can be met within the organization’s security, compliance and governance framework,” Miles wrote.
