handshake partnership stockSymantec has teamed up with several companies in an effort to boost the adoption of new platforms designed to protect Internet of Things-based devices from cyber threats.

Automated teller machine manufacturer Wincor Nixdorf will implement Symantec’s Embedded Critical Systems Protection tool that works to safeguard Internet-connected devices from zero-day attacks, Symantec said Tuesday.

Symantec will combine its Certificate Authority with wolfSSL and Texas Instruments’ embeddable hardware to develop new Roots of Trust for the authentication and encryption of data in IoT devices.

“Providing secure, simple and seamless authentication requires embedding certificates in IoT products,” said Gil Reiter, director of strategic marketing for IoT at Texas Instruments.

“To help customers secure cloud communications, TI currently embeds Symantec’s root certificate in multiple IoT devices to digitally sign and authenticate Internet communication and firmware updates.”
