Raytheon has been awarded a $52 million contract to extend the company’s testing and analysis work for the U.S. Navy’s joint precision approach landing systems program.
The goal is to approve the integration of JPALS with the F-35 joint strike fighter, Raytheon said Wednesday.
JPALS is designed to guide fixed and rotary-wing aircraft in coordination with the GPS satellite navigation system.
“Landing a high-powered, high-speed aircraft on a moving carrier in rough seas is an exceptionally difficult task,†said Brian Hickey, Raytheon’s director of navigation and landing systems.
The system has an anti-jamming technology to help organizations maintain operations during emergency.
