network, comm, informationJeff Sopko, executive vice president of PotomacWave Consulting, has said five agencies have adopted the company’s FedDataCheck tool to catch data errors in federal contract awards prior to “downstream reporting,” GovExec reported Monday.

“[Errors] stem from frequent changes in policy and procedures that take time to be implemented in source contract writing, as well as human errors,” Sopko told GovExec.

“We’re trying to leverage the government’s open data initiative to focus on the Federal Procurement Data Base-Next Generation [system] to analyze data integrity in the real-time workflow, so that the acquisition workforce can spend more time on data analysis rather than data correction.”

Charles Clark writes the Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Treasury and Veterans Affairs departments have already subscribed to FedDataCheck.

Sopko noted that the tool works to foster government data integrity via automation instead of requirements for additional labor.
