The Energy Department‘s Oak Ridge National Laboratory has moved to adopt a Citrix-built platform in an effort to centralize mobile device management operations, GCN reported Thursday.
Stephanie Kanowitz writes ORNL mobile managers previously used two different MDM services to manage the national lab’s bring-your-own-device initiative and laboratory-owned devices but decided to implement the Citrix-developed tool in order to reduce costs.
Tina Snyder, mobile device team lead at ORNL, told GCN the Citrix tool is designed to allow ORNL contractors and employees to remotely view lab data, develop internal applications for particular groups of users and utilize user certificates to log in once and remotely access apps.
Citrix’s tool has a Worx Home app designed to enable lab personnel to access work-related apps and a Worx Store platform that works as a marketplace where employees can download apps, such as Finder, RESolution and TimeTracker, according to Snyder.
