DigitalGlobe has unveiled a new hosted service that works to help software developers build their own Web or mobile applications from the company’s satellite image basemaps.
Luke Barrington, senior director of product development at DigitalGlobe, wrote in a blog entry posted Thursday that DigitalGlobe Maps API also provides terrain and OpenStreetMap layers for image context.
He said the API is built on the Mapbox mapping platform to pipe DigitalGlobe’s satellite images into the created app.
DigitalGlobe will curate and host the imaging content, Barrington added.
