rocket launchJ.P. Donovan Construction has been awarded a potential $45.8 million contract to install land-based support systems onto the Mobile Launcher for NASA’s rockets and space vehicles at the Florida-based Kennedy Space Center.

NASA said Wednesday the integration of the ground systems with the launcher intends to facilitate efforts to assemble and launch the space agency’s Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System rocket designed for Mars exploration program and other deep space missions.

The firm-fixed-price contract will run for one year and three months.

Subcontractors include Core Electric, MDI Services and Bragg Crane & Rigging.
