A report by Intel Security (McAfee) and the Aspen Institute has outlined the cyber challenges facing North American and European technology and security professionals at critical infrastructure organizations amid recent major cyber attack incidents.
The report indicated that while these professionals remain confident of their cyber defenses even as threats continue to be on the rise, a serious attack is still likely to occur.
Professionals in the transportation and energy sectors have indicated the likelihood of attacks causing either loss of life or disruption to critical services, the report added.
They also believe that human error, more than the use of personal mobile devices at work, would be the cause of the potential attacks.
According to the report, the perception of strong cyber defense could also be due to overconfidence or a disconnect with actual capabilities.
Technology and security professionals, particularly in the U.S., U.K. and Germany, called for greater cooperation between governments and organizations to address the potential threats, the report said.
