Big Data, AppsIBM and French high performance computing agency GENCI have partnered to develop a new exascale computing system.

The team will prepare scientific applications for systems designed to perform more than 100 petaflops of calculation under the 18-month collaboration, IBM said Friday.

“We fully expect our collaborative efforts will produce innovations capable of moving the supercomputing industry that much closer to exascale,” said Michel Teyssedre, chief technology officer of IBM France.

IBM’s technical personnel will participate in application porting and optimization work and in GENCI’s education and porting sessions.

GENCI will work to evaluate the MPI and OpenMP as a first step for shared memory multiprocessing programming, as well as alternative application program interfaces in order to understand the evolution of programming models.
