Steven Spano

Steven Spano serves as president of the Center for Internet Security, a New York-based nonprofit organization that works on public- and private-sector cybersecurity readiness and response.

He previously worked at Amazon Web Services as general manager for defense and national security within the company’s worldwide public sector business.

Before joining AWS, Spano served in the U.S. Air Force for nearly 30 years.

He retired from military service in 2011 as director of communications for Air Combat Command with the rank of brigadier general.

He has also worked with the Multi-National Forces Iraq on IT policy, network operations and interoperability and advised the Iraqi government on the reconstruction of information and communications technology.

Spano has earned a master’s degree in strategic studies from Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, a master of administrative science from Johns Hopkins University, a BS in business administration from Norwich University, and was a senior executive fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
