The FlexTech Alliance consortium will create and manage the seventh Manufacturing Innovation Institute for Flexible Hybrid Electronics under a cooperative agreement with the Defense Department as part of the government’s National Network for Manufacturing Innovation.
DoD said Friday the institute will bring together government, industry and academic professionals to help bolster U.S. manufacturing capabilities in flexible hybrid electronics.
The Air Force Research Laboratory manages the agreement, which DoD said will put $171 million in investments toward the future innovation hub over a five-year period.
According to the department, the FlexTech team consists of 162 companies, nonprofits, universities and independent research organizations.
The new hub is the fifth of six DoD-led manufacturing institutes, the department added.
