The Defense Information Systems Agency looks to adopt software-defined networking in an effort to protect mission-critical networks, C4ISR & Networks reported Wednesday.
John Edwards and Eve Keiser write DISA will base the SDN deployment plan on use cases and proof-of-concept assessments.
Eric Sharret, vice president of Telegrid, said the agency will use three use case studies focused on data center connectivity, service maintenance using network management systems and data flow visibility, according to the report.
“Creating a SDN between the [data centers], to reduce latency caused by traversing the Joint Regional Security Stacks, will likely be the first target,†Sharret said.
Livingston, New Jersey-based Telegrid developed Transec to help protect DISA’s SDN Layer 2 data links, C4ISR & Networks reports.
Bob Fortna, defense sector vice president for Juniper Networks, also said SDN helps to remove “the slow process of acquisition and deployment of new physical assets†in order to develop new networks and applications, the report says.
