BAE Systems has received a $46 million contract modification from the U.S. Air Force to continue its support for the operations and maintenance of the Solid State Phased Radar System through 2018.
The company said Wednesday the modification adds another year to its 2006 contract and brings the estimated total deal value to $550 million.
“Providing missile defense and space surveillance for the United States, Canada and our allies is a very important mission,” said DeEtte Gray, president of the intelligence and security sector at BAE Systems.
The company provides support services to the Air Force’s 21st Space Wing unit at the SSPARS sites in Alaska, California and Massachusetts in the U.S. and in Greenland and the U.K.
According to BAE, the space radar system works to deliver capabilities such as ballistic missile early warning, groundâ€based midcourse defense programs, communications-electronic systems and space surveillance.
