The Department of Veterans Affairs is field-testing new mobile applications that work to help healthcare providers and patients connect with the VA’s Vista electronic health records system, FCW reported Wednesday.
Adam Mazmanian writes that the Mobile Blue Button and Summary of Care apps as well as the upcoming Patient Viewer app work to provide mobile access and control to health records and drive efficiency in patient care.
“The hypothesis is that these mobile devices will save approximately five minutes per patient, which will increase the number of patients that we can potentially see,” said Kathy Frisbee, co-director of the Connected Health program of the Veterans Health Administration‘s Office of Informatics and Analytics.
VA is scheduled to begin field tests on the Patient Viewer app this summer and deploy it by late fall, the report said.
Mazmanian reports that field tests on the Mobile Blue Button and Summary of Care apps began in November before their rollout in early fall.
