Raytheon has completed the installation of the Launch and Checkout System hardware on the GPS Next-Generation Operational Control System as part of efforts to modernize GPS capabilities in the U.S.
The company said Wednesday it performed hardware installation at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado, which will house the future GPS OCX Master Control Station.
Matt Gilligan, vice president of navigation and environmental solutions at Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services business, said the GPS OCX ground command and control system works to support the navigation needs of GPS users in the military, commercial and civil sectors.
He added that completing the LCS installation moves the program toward acceptance of the hardware for the GPS III satellites next year.
The LCS hardware also features a cybersecurity architecture for other mission applications under Block 1, Raytheon said.
