droneThe U.S. Marine Corps demonstrated an unmanned aircraft system equipped with a Harris Corp.-built data link technology during USMC’s Talon Reach exercise, Defense Systems reported Thursday.

Kevin McCaney writes Small Secure Data Link platform is designed to leverage very high and ultra high frequency radio networks and certified to protect classified communications.

Harris derived the system from the company’s AN/PRC-152A Falcon III tactical radio.

Ed Zoiss, vice president and general manager of defense programs at Harris’ government communications systems business, said the company wants to test technology from Blackjack or other drones to the Raven UAS.

The company designed a nose-cone data link system for the Raven with intent to help military users manage communications in a contested environment, according to Defense Systems.
