cyberwarfareA survey report by Intel‘s security business and the Aspen Institute points to a rising demand for public-private partnerships on threat intelligence sharing among information technology decision-makers for critical infrastructure organizations.

An article published Tuesday on Cyber Security Dojo reports that 86 percent of the 625 respondents in the multicountry survey call for increased cyber cooperation between the public and private sectors.

The report said a majority of the respondents also think a national defense force should lead the response to a cyber attack on critical infrastructure, even as 48 percent anticipate that such an attack is likely to occur within the next three years.

“This data raises new and vital questions about how public and private interests can best join forces to mitigate and defend against cyber attacks,” Clark Kent Ervin, homeland security program director at the Aspen Institute, said in a statement, according to the report.

The “Holding the Line Against Cyber Threats: Critical Infrastructure Readiness Survey” also indicates that critical infrastructure providers perceive improvements in their cybersecurity posture and confidence in current IT security measures.

Meanwhile, respondents also believe disruptions and threat levels are increasing although user error still appears to be the top cause of cyber attacks.

Intel Security and the Aspen Institute noted that U.S. respondents are more wary than their counterparts in France, Germany and the U.K. of a cyber attack that could result in casualties.
